Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory Committee Seeking Applicants

The Women in Aviation Advisory Board was originally established in the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act as a means to encourage and support female students and aviators to pursue an aviation career. To further this initiative, as part of the recent 2024 Reauthorization Act, the FAA established the Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory Committee to seek external stakeholder recommendations on attracting more women into aviation careers. The advisory committee’s work products will help inform the Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Initiative on appropriate actions that the FAA may consider.

The application period for the Bessie Coleman Women in Aviation Advisory Committee is now open. The Department of Transportation and FAA will select at least 25 leaders to serve on the committee and its members will range from business leaders to aviation specialists and experts. The committee promotes the recruitment, retention, employment, education, training, career advancement, and well-being of women in the aviation industry and aviation-focused Federal civil service positions. The committee's work will help continue the legacy of innovators, like Bessie Coleman, who revolutionized their disciplines within aviation.

The committee's members will use their experiences and talents to develop innovative recommendations. They are seeking a diverse collection of voices to contribute to the conversation.

Those selected for membership will be able to collaborate with aviation experts, as well as maximize their unique experiences and creative approaches to advance the committee’s goals. The committee will meet at least twice a year to develop actionable plans and recommendations to attract and retain more women into aviation careers.
