ATEC Submits Comments in Support of Testing Designation Expansion to Organizations

ATEC submitted comments to Draft Order 8100.15C, Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Procedures, in support of expanded oral and practical testing for graduating students.

This summer, the FAA published draft internal guidance to expand the current ODA program to include airman certification ODA (AC ODA), including pilots and mechanics (see related story).

In its comments, the council supported the rigorous ODA holder responsibilities and recognized that an AC ODA would not be a wise investment for most A&P schools. It also noted that having even a few AC ODA holders to supplement the existing DME network will alleviate increasing pressure in the mechanic testing pipeline.

In addition to its support of AC ODA, the Council continues to support common sense expansion of the current DME network including making it easier for DMEs to obtain the necessary approvals to test across geographic barriers (see related story).

ATEC members are encouraged to submit their own comments to the draft Order using the ATEC-created template. Comments are due Monday, October 21.
