Aviation Education Goes to Washington, Elects New Directors

Last month ATEC members, industry partners, and federal officials gathered in Washington DC to discuss policy updates and legislative priorities. After a full day of policy discussions with the FAA and briefings on legislative initiatives, ATEC representatives headed to Capitol Hill where constituents attended over 75 congressional meetings representing twenty-five states.

The three-day event wrapped with the annual ATEC board meeting where the council recognized and thanked exiting board members: Karen Johnson, Luke Solomon, Kent Stauffer, and Dan Phillips.

The board welcomed several new directors to a four-year term: Scott Ferris from United Airlines, David Blanton from Liberty University, Archie Vega from Horizon Air, and Justin Benard from Moore Norman Technology Center.

Officers were also selected, including James Hall of WSU Tech who will serve his second term of president, Jared Britt of Aviation Education Academy, former treasurer who will move into the position of Vice President, and Michael Sasso of Aims Community College who will serve as Secretary/Treasurer.

The entire directory of ATEC's elected, volunteer leaders is at Leadership - Aviation Technician Education Council (atec-amt.org).
